The newest Bulgarian winter resort, recently discovered by the foreign tourists, Bansko provides an interesting combination between the virgin nature of Pirin Mountain and the atmosphere of the ancient Bulgarian small town.
Tucked away in the foot of Pirin Mountain the town of Bansko is a mesmerizing place for Bulgarian and foreign tourists all year round. Equally attractive during all four seasons, the town offers a variety of conditions for recreation and repose. The impressive sceneries, unique nature, originally glamorous settlements with their distinctive culture make Pirin Mountain one of the most attractive places for the tourists. Peak of Vihren is known among the tourists as the peak of the storms. It is the highest peak of the Pirin Mountain (2914 m) and the third highest on Balkan Peninsula. Seen from north Vihren looks like a truncated pyramid with an impressive vertical wall 420 m high in the foot of which lies the perpetual blanket of snow.
Bansko ski resort is situated in Southwestern Bulgaria, at the foothills of one of the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains - Pirin, which is a national preserve, included in the WORLD NATURAL HERITAGE list. The distance from Sofia to Bansko is 160 km and has the best and most modern ski centre of all Bulgarian ski resorts. During the recent years a multi-million euros investment in a brand new skiing area has been made. Bansko has the best snow record and the longest ski season (15 Dec - 15 May) of all Bulgarian ski resorts. During the last couple of years this resort is under a massive investment process with new hotels and resort facilities being under construction. A brand new resort area with super luxury hotels and holiday apartments is being developed just opposite the Gondola, which also makes Bansko the resort with the best hotels.
The skiing conditions in Bansko are excellent. The Pirin mountain has a predominately Alpine character with three peaks towering above 2900 m. However the slopes offer runs and tracks for all types of skiers, from novice to the experts, while the ski runs are maintained in excellent condition. A total of 56 km of ski runs are perfectly maintained through their treatment by 12 Kassbohrer snow-stamping machines. The ski season is guaranteed from December to May thanks to 30 «TechnoAlpin» artificial snow guns.

Ski track Todorka - the area of Todorka peak has been known among the fans of extreme ski sport and snowboard for a rather long time as the best place in Bulgaria for off-piste skiing and boarding. No other place could be found where you can ride down through such pleasant places at minimum efforts. Furthermore - if you hear someone telling a story about some incredible ride on thick virgin snow usually it concerns Bansko. The perfect combination of climate, forest and slopes is what makes the conditions here so good. The precipitation here is usually high thanks to humid Mediterranean air. The centuries old white fir forests are in position to keep the snow crumbled even if the weather has been warm and sunny for days.
